The home has excellent transport links to the A419 and junction 15 of the M4. Public transport is also close by.

Residents may be able to self-fund the cost of their care. As per our Terms of Business, Wemyss Lodge will need evidence of funds available to cover fees for a minimum period of 2 years.

The local government may be able to provide financial assistance to cover part or all of your care costs. A financial assessment is often the first stage of the process with the FAB Team at Swindon Borough Council. If you require nursing care, you may be eligible for NHS funding assistance. Continuing Health Care may be able to offer financial assistance for higher levels of care and support (funded nursing care) and this is also determined following an assessment.

A standing order should be set up which ensures that fees are paid automatically and on time every month.

There are over 100 members of the staff family at Wemyss Lodge. Our Clinical Team consists of registered nurses and carers providing care 24/7 365 days of the year. There are maintenance and housekeeping staff, kitchen staff and an Executive Chef along with training and administration staff.

Staff will soon be using electronic care software to update resident’s information. Residents and visitors to the home also have access to Wi-Fi internet and our Tovertafel Magic Table which is an interactive table which encourages sensory stimulation through games and movement. Our magic table creates moments of fun and happiness for all residents including those living with dementia and all those around them. Residents can also use our speech and language aid too.

We recognise that family and friends have an invaluable part to play in a resident’s wellbeing, and we encourage visits at any time.

Staff receive continuous accredited training and development of their skills. Staff are assessed regularly by way of individual observations to ensure high standards of care are always achieved . All members of staff receive regular 1:1’s and appraisals and participate in regular staff meetings.

The Company’s Philosophy of Care is based upon the belief that our residents are entitled to be treated as individuals. We encourage independence, individual choice, provide consultation about services within the home and support people in the achievement of personal goals. Residents are offered a wide range of activities, hobbies and interests and are involved in the development of the services we offer.

We gain and act upon feedback regularly from our residents, family and friends and visiting professionals by issuing surveys and holding regular Family and Friends Forum Meetings and Resident Meetings. Staff enjoy getting to know our residents and formulating care plans.

Our registration with CQC states confirms our Specialisms/services are as follows;

Sundries are payable where applicable for Chiropody, newspapers, hairdressing and appointment escorts/transportation, One-call phones and Sky TV.

Wemyss Lodge is registered and regulated to provide nursing care to residents who need care, support and assistance from a qualified nurse 24 hours a day. Nurses provide care for residents with higher health related needs such as physical disabilities, dementia, stroke, Parkinson’s, MSA (Multi-System Atrophy), end of life support and care, diabetes, complex care needs.

Wemyss Lodge provides a safe and homely environment for residents who may need extra help and support with their personal care and day-to-day tasks such as preparing meals. Care staff are available 24 hours a day to enable our residents to maintain their independence in a supportive environment. Our kitchen staff are on hand to provide three delicious home cooked meals each day and a range of drinks and snacks available 24 hours a day.

Respite care is available as a temporary option to provide carers at home or their families a break from caring for their love one. Respite can also facilitate recovery and rehabilitation following a hospital stay or a medical procedure.

Care at Wemyss Lodge is provided by our fully trained staff who receive ongoing accredited training. Many of our regular respite residents stay with us on a permanent basis.

There are many kinds of Dementia which can cause impairment of language skills, confusion, decreased memory function, problem solving, deficits in cognition levels making it increasingly difficult to achieve day-to-day activities independently.  Our staff receive training to assist our residents by being empathic, patient and caring.

As our life expectancies increase, some of our resident’s experience deterioration in their mental health and sometimes behaviours can become more challenging. The Wemyss Lodge Stratton Wing is a safe unit which enables us to care for residents with more severe mental illnesses. Our Stratton Wing staff are fully trained to fulfil the psychological, health and social needs of our residents. We work closely with our local borough and the community teams to ensure our care is person centred.

A Holistic approach is always adopted at Wemyss Lodge which means we care for the whole person by constantly evaluating physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual needs. This level of care takes into consideration our resident’s overall well-being and not just the health of our residents from a purely clinical perspective.

We believe it is vital that our residents maintain their independence for as long as possible and we will facilitate choices in relation to how medication is safely administered. Safe practice is just one of the ways we are assessed by our regulators, The CQC.

One-call can supply in-room phones for our residents at an additional cost. The phones can be set up to provide a comfort message for residents and restricted calling times. Alternatively, some of our residents have their own mobile phone or the home phones can be used for residents too.

All rooms have a television installed.

Sky is available in rooms at an additional cost.

Our Executive Chef and his team create three home cooked meals every day with many options available to accommodate all palates. Meals are served with a choice of alcoholic or non-alcoholic drinks.

Lunch is a two course meal. As you would expect, special dietary requirements and various consistencies of cuisine are also catered for. A selection of drinks and snacks are served throughout the day.

Wemyss Lodge have an on-site hairdressing salon with two part-time hairdressers. There is a Wemyss Lodge minibus, cinema/sensory room, dining room, multiple seating areas and an on-site laundry run by housekeeping staff. The home also has a sweet cart fully stocked with sweet and savoury snacks.

Residents have access to the resident’s garden which has covered seating areas, benches in multiple areas, planted borders and accessible raised planting areas.

Enrichment for our residents is provided every day of the week by our Activities Team. Seasonal and celebratory activities are plentiful and include virtual cruising, baking, arts and crafts, flower arranging, painting, afternoon teas, trips to the coast, wildlife park and gardening centres to name but a few. Our residents have the choice of participating in any activities they wish to. Some residents prefer to spend time in their own rooms. To ensure that our residents are not socially isolated, our Activities team carry out one to ones in residents’ rooms daily.

We encourage our residents to be actively involved in the community and maintain contact through  social interaction with groups and local services/charities beneficial to them such as Headway (The Brain Injury Association), The Swindon Blind Association and Coleview Community Centre.
