What Is Normal?

We are perhaps all asking that question after dealing with the challenges of the pandemic 2020-2021. All our lives have been affected, some more than others. The care home sector plan; re-booting their approach to quality in the light of the new normal[1]This positive approach to moving forward is exactly what we are doing at Wemyss Lodge.

What are we doing?

We have a new Chef Lory, he is inspired, bringing new innovative ideas, creative style and a flavour of excitement to the residents’ favourite meals. Lory and his teams presentation is outstanding and they would give any restaurant a run for their money in their charm and customer experience.

We continue in our commitment to provide a balance of an outstanding and safe experiences for our residents at meal times. We have a host in the dining room during all meal times whose job it is to ensure a safe and supportive environment as well as maintaining and updating relevant care records.

We are sprucing up the garden in readiness for our residents to enjoy the better weather and enjoy outdoor socialising and pursuits. We have included a beautiful water feature, music, comfortable, easily accessible garden furniture and a safe paved walkway. We have some other projects ‘up-our-sleeve’ for the not too distant future. These future projects will revolutionise our outdoor living for our residents. More about that to follow!

We have a new IT Care Management System[2]in place. This enables our team to be able to record the care of our residents ‘in real time’. The system will enable us to develop closer connections for family to be part of their loved ones’ lives, all care is captured so we can provide great continuity of care and provide a picture ‘story’ of the activities our residents engage in.

What we have re-instated

It is a great pleasure for us to get back into using our lounge area, cinema room and Tovertefel Table for our residents to socialise. We are observing the restrictions laid out in government guidelines. Teressa the manager, has a strict policy of staff LFT and PCR testing. We are committed to providing a safe environment guided by best practice advice from the  Infection Prevention and Control and Health and Safety specialist community teams.

We are now forward planning, within the government guidelines, for the residents to re-join activities in the wider community. Currently, guidelines are not conducive for us to get back out there yet. So, with that in mind, we are using our resources in the lodge to allow our imagination to take us on a journey to other countries, through gourmet days with our Chef Lory with music and films in keeping with the theme.

 We are looking forward
